Judd turns to “Sex Differences” with a note of caution: “It is difficult to disentangle this problem from a mass of social considerations.” He acknowledges that women have been assumed to have “fundamentally different tastes and interests” and that the social system has “sometimes expressed itself in terms which imply inferiority of women.” He observes that girls in coeducational classes have “shown themselves not only quite as competent intellectually as boys but in some respects superior.” Yet he notes a persistent “difference in tastes and interests” and a demand for special training for girls.
